Description: In an ode to women’s pleasure, the Mildred Coffee Table combines the story of the “Dildos of Nantucket” with the sculptural and often whimsical design of contemporary sex toys. The designer was fascinated with the stories of hidden homemade sex toys discovered in the homes of whalers’ wives, who were often left alone for months at a time, as well as the materials used to create them. The evolution of women’s sex toys into objects that no longer resemble human appendages felt like an emancipation of women, and deserving of celebration. The shape of the legs of the Mildred Coffee Table evokes the progress and playfulness that we enjoy today, while the name and the material in which the table is created are a nod to the creativity and an acknowledgement of the sexuality of past generations of women. Crafted in solid wood with an oil and wax finish.
